Kino Union is a three-screen cinema on Bölschestraße in Friedrichshagen. According to the cinema's history, its original hall was a dance hall converted into a cinema in 1913. After the cinema closed in 1998, a citizens' initiative campaigned to save it; it reopened in December 2003 and added a new building with two further screens in 2014 and 2015. Its history page places the building beside Friedrichshagen station, which is served by the S-Bahn line S3.
The programme combines current releases and documentaries with a wide range of events, including DEFA classics, film talks, concert films, opera relays, theatre and parties. In its series "Das Original", the cinema shows current films in their original language with German subtitles; OV marks the original version without subtitles. The cinema says the series includes films in other languages as well as English-language ones, and neither the series nor the OV label by itself means English audio. Our listings here are for English-audio screenings.
The three rooms differ: the Alter Saal has 163 seats with tables, the Neuer Saal 87 seats and the Studiokino 65 seats with tables. The cinema's rooms page marks the Neuer Saal and the stalls of the Alter Saal as barrier-free (barrierefrei); it gives no such note for the Studiokino.
