Sputnik Kino is an arthouse cinema in the Höfe am Südstern in Kreuzberg, on the fifth floor of the third rear courtyard. You can enter from Hasenheide 54 or from Körtestraße. The cinema says it was founded by the Sputnik collective in 1984 and has been run since 2008 by Andrea Stosiek's agency, which also operates the Freiluftkino Insel open-air cinema.
There are two rooms. Kino 1 has 77 seats on built-in brick rows, with some two-seaters, and Kino 2 seats 20 on sofas and armchairs. The bar has large windows and balconies looking out over the rooftops, and Sputnik occasionally uses it as a third screening room. Because the cinema is on the fifth floor, guests who cannot manage the stairs are asked to phone ahead to arrange a trip in the goods lift with staff; Sputnik says the lift can only be used between screenings in Kino 1. Its directions page lists U7 Südstern and the M41 and N7 buses at Körtestraße.
The operator's own programme marks screenings with labels such as D, OmU and OmeU. None of these by itself means English audio. Our listings here are for English-audio screenings.
