Il Kino is a single-screen cinema with 52 seats at Nansenstraße 22, in a former bakery. It opened in November 2014, modelled on the cinema KINO in Rome as an arthouse cinema with its own café. Its programme concentrates on new international films and festival titles, and the cinema says that because its audience is as international as its films, it tries to offer films with English and German subtitles.
The café and bar serves home-made Italian food and snacks, coffee, cakes and wine, which you can take into the cinema, and there is an outside terrace. Il Kino lists Schönleinstraße (U8) and Hermannplatz (U7 and U8) for the U-Bahn, and the Pflügerstraße bus stop for lines 171, 194 and M29.
On Il Kino's own programme, each screening shows its spoken language, and subtitled screenings carry a label: OmU for German subtitles and OmeU for English subtitles. Neither label by itself means English audio, and the programme includes OmeU screenings of films in other languages. Our listings here are for English-audio screenings.
