Babylon is a cinema on Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße in Berlin-Mitte. Its history page says it opened on 11 April 1929 in a building by the architect Hans Poelzig. The original cinema organ from that year still stands in the large auditorium, and the programme includes silent films, some with live accompaniment. Alongside current films, Babylon runs film series and festivals, and its live programme takes in readings, concerts and theatre.
There are three screens of very different sizes: Kino 1 has 500 seats, Kino 2 has 68 and Kino 3 has 43. Babylon lists Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz on the U2 as its U-Bahn stop, and Alexanderplatz for the S-Bahn and for buses 100, 200, 340 and 348. Its directions page has the details.
Babylon's own "English for You" section gathers films shown in the English original version (OV) and films with English subtitles (OmeU). Not every film there has English audio, because English subtitles (OmeU) do not mean English audio. Our listings here are for English-audio screenings.
