The Naked Gun

Liam Neeson as a bumbling cop in a slapstick comedy? Yep, that’s exactly what you get in The Naked Gun, the latest entry in the long-running spoof franchise. This 2025 action crime comedy brings back the absurd, deadpan humor of the original trilogy, this time with Neeson stepping into the shoes of Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the iconic original character. Directed by Akiva Schaffer and written by Schaffer, Dan Gregor, and Doug Mand, the film is a wild ride full of ridiculous gags, over-the-top action, and a surprising amount of heart.
The story follows Drebin Jr. as he tries to live up to his father’s legacy while saving the Police Squad from being shut down. Along the way, he uncovers a sinister tech plot involving a device called the P.L.O.T. Device (yes, really), which threatens to turn humanity into violent barbarians. It’s as silly as it sounds—and that’s the point. The film leans hard into its parody roots, with everything from self-driving car chaos to a magical snowman threesome (don’t ask) thrown into the mix.
The cast is stacked with comedic and action talent. Pamela Anderson plays Beth Davenport, a crime novelist who gets tangled up in the case, while Paul Walter Hauser, Danny Huston, CCH Pounder, and Kevin Durand round out the ensemble. There are also fun cameos from MMA fighters and even “Weird Al” Yankovic, who keeps his streak of appearing in every Naked Gun film alive.
If you’re a fan of the original Naked Gun movies or just love goofy, irreverent humor, this one’s for you. It’s packed with visual gags, wordplay, and absurd scenarios that don’t take themselves seriously for a second. Critics have praised Neeson’s deadpan delivery and the film’s ability to capture the spirit of the originals, with Rotten Tomatoes showing a strong 88% approval rating and audiences giving it an A– CinemaScore.
On the flip side, if you’re not into slapstick or find parody films a bit much, this might not be your cup of tea. But for those looking for a laugh-out-loud comedy that doesn’t hold back on the ridiculous, The Naked Gun delivers. And with talks of a sequel already underway, it looks like Drebin Jr. might be sticking around for more misadventures.
